Student Council Members 2019-2020
Granagh N.S. believes that students have a vital role to play in creating a positive and welcoming environment conducive to learning and happiness. Our first Student Council was formed on November 25th 2019.
Some of the functions of a Student Council include:
The Election Process
Students are invited to nominate themselves for a place on the Student Council. Prior to the election nominees are invited to engage with their classmates and explain why they should get a vote. An election is then held in each class and two representatives are awarded a seat on the Student Council for the duration of the academic year. The elected pupils are required to be active participants in the Student Council, to attend meetings (approx. once a month), participate in activities and be a role model for other students.
Student Council Meetings
Prior to the meeting, the Student Council representatives will collect ideas and suggestions from all classes, for the agenda. As well as bringing matters to the Council for discussion, the members will be required to report the outcome of meetings to the other classes.
Topics that might come up for discussion at Student Council meetings may include the following:
Through our Student Council we hope to give our pupils a more active role in the organisation of our school and ensure they are listened to and respected for their ideas and concerns. Discussions in classes and at Council meetings help to develop social and learning skills in many areas including speaking and listening, problem solving, brainstorming and the decision-making process.
Some of the functions of a Student Council include:
- Provides an opportunity for pupils to voice their opinions and offer suggestions in relation to many aspects of school life.
- The Student Council helps to keep the lines of communication open between teachers and students.
- The Student Council suggests ideas and comes up with plans to improve the school environment for students.
- The Student Council keeps the rest of the school informed about the issues discussed, decisions taken and events planned.
