1. Take Part in Math's week 2021 & 2. Develop a Maths Trail Around the School
Junior and Senior Infants
1. Participation in Math's Week
Junior Infants and Senior Infants took part in Maths week from October 18th – 22nd 2021. During the week we played Maths games. We worked in pairs, took turns and used our maths skills to play these games. We loved this because it was fun. We played Maths games on the interactive whiteboard and on the computer and laptops in our classroom. We really liked playing Maths games on the computers and laptops. We used Maths during P.E. We played hopscotch and we used number cards. We made a pumpkin and a witch during Visual Arts class using 2-D Shapes. We went on a Maths trail in the school yard. We went outside and worked together in teams. We liked working as a team. We love colouring so as part of Maths week we practised our Maths skills and we coloured by number. We used no Maths workbooks in class or for homework. For homework we found 2D shapes in our homes and gardens. We made 2D shapes using twigs and stones. You see we use Maths every day, and not just in our Maths lesson.

Junior Infants and Senior Infants were very excited to be doing a Maths Trail as part of Maths week. We thoroughly enjoyed using our maths skills to complete the trail. We used the skills of counting, adding, estimating and measuring. We worked in mixed class groups and the Maths Trail catered for all of us. We enjoyed during the Maths Trail outside with our friends.

They were asked to include features such as right angles, tessellating, equilateral, scalene and isosceles triangles in their drawings. Many children included the theme of Halloween in their drawings.
2. Developing a Maths Trail around the School Grounds
The pupils completed a Maths trail indoors and outdoors. This involved using their maths skills to solve real life problems. They used their problem solving, communicating, reasoning and understanding skills to complete the trail . They were thoroughly engaged and found the trail very enjoyable.

2. Creating a Maths Trail: The pupils created Maths Trails in groups. Elements from each trail was used to create a class trail which was shared with the other classrooms. The pupils used the skills of problem solving, measuring, estimating and number skills to solve the puzzles and complete the Maths Trail.
3. Using Maths Skills as Part of Design
Maths in the World Around Us - Cardioids: This was one of the highlight activities of the week. After investigating examples of cardioids in the world, the pupils used their multiplication skills to create designs based on multiples of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. The designs looked amazing.
Maths Art: Symmetry: We looked at symmetry in the world around us and, to tie in with our Hallowe'en art, we created amazing Symmetrical Pumpkins.
